I want to take this opportunity to salute our hardworking staff with my warmest compliments and heartfelt wishes for the sacrifices made to meet the demands of our customers as our world continues to grapple due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As you are all aware, the Pan African Postal Union was born on 18th January 1980 in Arusha, the United Republic of Tanzania. PAPU reserves this day on its annual calendar for celebrating the African Postal Customer in line with a Theme approved by the Union’s Plenipotentiary Conference.

Accordingly, the approved theme for today’s forty-first PAPU Day Celebrations is “Harnessing synergies with players of the wider postal sector”. The choice of this theme is consistent with the ongoing worldwide discussions and consultations on the proposed opening-up of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to players of the wider postal sector. This issue has taken centre stage in the current global agenda.

With us as Ghana Post, empirical evidence of our existing partnerships makes us understand that partnerships are no longer an option, but a necessity, owing to their remarkable potential for finding innovative solutions to prevailing needs and challenges.

A strategic partnership renders win-win outcomes which yield dividends for all stakeholders. We have the opportunity to expand our business reach, customers benefit from the value addition and subsequent service propositions whilst employees find more excellent and better opportunities for development through new perspectives and expertise.

Ghana Post is ready to explore mutually supportive and rewarding partnerships to achieve more robust growth and contribute to advancing our shared agenda for a harmonized transformation of our continent’s postal sector.

The Postal industry across Africa is seized with the digital transformation agenda that seeks to grow the postal sector and reposition it, with much clarity, as a critical driver of inclusive socio-economic development in our countries.

This transformation agenda allows collaboration with technology to develop new digital products and services. My administration is ready to utilize synergies with these partners to reclaim lost market share and consolidate its grip on the world of e-services, e-commerce, e-government, e-money (digital). We shall pursue the achievement of total compatibility to the e-post environment of its operations and service offerings.

Currently, PAPU is actively participating in the study on the digitalization of postal services, with a particular focus on improving e-commerce. The study is spearheaded by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) but funded by the French Government.

Today as we celebrate PAPU Day, Ghana Post is proud to have in our midst two consultants of the project; Dominique Colin and Louis-Francois de Robiano. Our ultimate goal is to embrace the recommendations, boost intra-African trade, and expand export flows per the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) guidelines.

It is my utmost prayer that the year 2022 will be used as an opportunity to take stock of how far we have come and to set new targets whose goal will be to consolidate and cement the critical role of the post in our communities.

I would like to again wish Africa’s Postal Fraternity and all our valuable partners and customers a happy, prosperous and highly fruitful year 2022. May we all step into the year 2022, bearing in mind that we can go fast and achieve less by acting individually, but working collectively together, we can reach the furthest and achieve more.
